CLIMATE Emergency DAY 2024

When the Clock strikes the new climate year, let’s make our leaders #ActInTime.

On Monday July 22 2024, the Climate Clock will tick down below five years for the first time. Meaning, we will have less than five years to dramatically reduce fossil fuel emissions to stay below 1.5C degrees warming.

On July 22nd, people around the world will mark this moment with synchronized actions, bringing clocks from climate impact zones to the halls of power, demanding that governments and corporations #ActInTime to meet our climate deadline, and enact the real, system-wide solutions we need.

There’s another day for unified global action on the climate calendar. Let’s use it!

Several hundred school students and youth activists led by pop-music celebrity Okyeame Kwame marched to the steps of the Parliament building in the capital city and were received by the Government Select Committee on climate change. Their message was that youth in Ghana are “already in a Climate Emergency.” Youth leaders highlighted how youth are feeling climate anxiety and demanded that leaders Act in Time for Climate Justice. They presented key demands: The government must fully commit to meeting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and be more ambitious in pursuing a Renewable Energy 10% transition by 2030. They also met with the UAE ambassador to discuss climate finance and Loss & Damage in advance of COP28.
